The benefits of using acetylene for welding and cutting applications are well established; acetylene has excellent thermal properties and is extremely efficient, and faster processing translates into significant time and cost savings. Because of its high flammability, however, acetylene – like any fuel gas – can present a serious safety hazard if it is not transported, stored and handled properly. Accidents involving acetylene are reported every year, with many of these resulting in serious injury or even death.
Secure it.
Ensure cylinders are fixed and secure before starting your journey.
Ventilate it.
Use a well-ventilated vehicle, ideally an open or flatbed truck, or a vehicle with a purpose-built sealed cabinet that is vented to the outside.
Respect it.
Acetylene cylinders must be transported and stored vertically. If acetylene cylinders are found laying on their side, allow them to stand in an upright position for at least 30 minutes before use.
